Team Horizon is developing ZK Vault — a privacy-preserving, zero-knowledge enabled decentralized vault and secure asset management protocol on NEAR Protocol. It allows users and teams to store, manage, and interact with digital assets (tokens, credentials, AI agent keys, etc.) with full confidentiality while maintaining verifiable compliance and on-chain auditability.

The Core Need: Current blockchain vaults force a privacy vs. security trade-off. NEAR has strong foundations (fast finality, low fees, chain signatures, confidential transactions), but lacks enhanced ZK infrastructure (proof generation/aggregation, optimized confidential balances, cross-shard ZK execution) needed for a production-grade vault that scales for individuals, DAOs, validators, and DeFi strategies.

- Development Bottlenecks: Client-side and on-chain ZK proof generation for vault operations is computationally heavy. We’ve encountered limits in proof size, verification costs, mobile/web performance, and cross-shard compatibility during prototyping.

- Comparative Analysis: Other chains (Ethereum L2s, Solana) offer partial ZK solutions but suffer from high fees or weaker privacy. NEAR’s sharded architecture + Chain Signatures provide unique potential for private multi-chain vaults, but dedicated ZK tooling is needed to lead in private asset management.

- Ecosystem Demand: Strong need in NEAR Legion / Outlayer for private custody of validator keys, DCA strategies, and IronClaw-style AI agents.
